Panel 1 / 29-01-2010

Congratulations on the initiative!
The undergoing climate change processes are far more than simply climate change, the the biosphere on Earth is undergoing global ecological change- water balance, forests coverage, soil quality... which means that to maintain quality of life throughout EU we need:
- to get serious raising of general awareness about environmental issues,
-radical steps in government(EU National and bio-regional ) regulations as well as limiting our ecological footprint including the administration.
-drastic limitation of the lobbying power of corporations in key decisions in regards of what exactly a real sustainable development means.
Cultural heritage and environmental responsibility are to be key factors in shaping our common vision for the EU.
I would like to hear from the discussion how the complex system of overlaping regulative powers ( EU vs National vs Regional ) should look like to become more efficient and responsive in resolving environmental issues?

What is the place of eurosceptics in the modern European democracy? What is your view about nationalism and euroscepticism in the new member states?

A lot of Bulgarians feel like “their voice has no consequence on EU affairs”. How our national authorities has to build their strategies to change this attitude? Is it common in the new member states?

The Lisbon treaty is designed to deal with so called democratic deficit. What is your vision of the role of media in this process - how to deal with euromyths of the next enlargement for example or about the role of the national parliaments?

The EU administration is too big with high level of bureaucracy. It should be drastically reduced and most of the work should be relocated on national level. It shouldn't be done by increasing administration on national level however.
Most of the decisions which affect people's lives should be taken by local people. There should be an EU consensus on the most important issues like: banning GMOs, banning NUKES, phasing out of arms, pesticides and all products and services which don't bring any good to the human development.
The EU subsidies shouldn't be given to companies, but to people, e.g. to produce their own organic food, to install renewables in their own homes, etc.
This is how I see the EU - as a tool to improve its citizens lives and to make the whole Europe a better place to live with clean rivers, waters, clean air, healthy environment. This can't happen without the involvement of every citizen, therefore this should be the target of the EU administration - to reach people.
