Arrest of Tymoshenko an arbitrary act / 25-05-2011

The President of the European People's Party (EPP), Wilfried Martens, the Spokesman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament on Foreign Affairs, Elmar Brok (CDU/DE), and the Spokesman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament in the Sub-committee on Security and Defence, Michael Gahler (CDU/DE), have strongly condemned the arrest of Ukrainian opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko:

"The arrest of Yulia Tymoshenko is an arbitrary act and a continuation of one-sided actions of the Ukrainian justice authorities against the opposition. The sole purpose of this act is to obstruct and intimidate the Ukrainian opposition. The Ukrainian authorities must release Yulia Tymoshenko immediately", Martens, Brok and Gahler demanded.
